at the crossroads of art, technology, and storytelling

Julie Wieland is an Art Director, Visual Artist and Filmmaker exploring new forms of visual storytelling through traditional craft and generative AI.

With a background in graphic design, her work is defined by a dreamlike and melancholic visual language that blends intimacy, nostalgia, and emotional realism. Blending traditional craft with generative tools, she creates cinematic narratives that dissolve the boundary between memory and imagination.

Julie is a Google Flow Sessions Artist and was invited to showcase her short film Until We Meet Again and participate as a panelist at the Tribeca Festival 2026. Her work has been recognized among the Top 50 Women in AI Filmmaking and the Top 50 Women in AI Art, and has been featured by publications including The New York Times and The Washington Post.

Deep in a forgotten forest lives an unassuming friendship between a stone golem and a dandelion who breaks through the soil every spring.

This short film was made as part of Google's Flow Sessions, an artist program at Google where a small group of creatives gets access to Flow, collaborates directly with the Google team and brings a passion project to life.

at the crossroads of art, technology, and storytelling

I’m Julie Wieland, an Art Director and Visual Artist blending traditional techniques with generative AI tools to craft compelling visual narratives.

With a background in graphic design, my work explores the creative potential of AI in storytelling – from post-photography to AI-enhanced cinema and video production. I’m drawn to dreamlike, cinematic aesthetics that merge emotional depth with technical innovation.

I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with industry leaders like Netflix, and my work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times and The Washington Post. Just as meaningful to me is sharing what I’ve learned – through online workshops and tutorials, I aim to empower other creatives and show how AI can enhance, rather than replace, human creativity.
